2022-23 STT Harkness Award for Outstanding Teaching Announced

STT PhD candidates Banan Al-Tayeb and Hema Kollipara were recently presented with the 2022-2023 William L. Harkness Award for outstanding teaching by a graduate student. The award is made possible by a generous gift from William Harkness, a doctoral alumnus from the Department of Statistics and Probability. Recipients are chosen for their remarkable teaching based on student evaluations and faculty observations of teaching.

“I am truly honored to receive the William L. Harkness Award from STT, acknowledging my dedication to teaching,” said Hema Kollipara. “Looking back on my enriching four-year journey as a TA at MSU, I credit my substantial growth to the valuable mentorship from instructional faculty, meaningful interactions with my students, and guidance from my seniors. Privileged to collaborate with an exceptional team of teaching specialists and graduate assistants committed to excellence in STT, this recognition fuels my motivation to continually enhance my teaching skills.”

“Being honored with the STT Harkness Award is a humbling recognition of my teaching within the Department of Statistics and Probability,” said Banan Al-Tayeb. “It serves as a motivating reminder to continually strive for excellence in cultivating an engaging and impactful learning atmosphere for students.”
