2020-2021 Harkness Award for Outstanding Teaching

PhD candidates Sarah Manski and Sumegha Premchandar were recently presented with the 2020-2021 William L. Harkness Award for outstanding teaching by a graduate student. The award is made possible by a generous gift from William Harkness, a doctoral alumnus of the Statistics and Probability department. Recipients are chosen for their remarkable teaching based on student evaluations and faculty observations of teaching.

“I am very grateful to have received the William L. Harkness award from STT in recognition of my teaching capabilities,” said Sumegha Premchandar. “I have grown a lot as a TA the past 3 years at MSU thanks to the mentorship provided by instructional faculty and learning from the students I interact with. I hope to continue learning what it means to be a good teacher.”

“I'm honored to join the ranks of many talented teachers that have been recognized with the Harkness Award,” said Sarah Manski. “I am passionate about statistics education and am privileged to work with an amazing group teaching specialists and graduate teaching assistants who strive for quality teaching in STT.”
