STT Department Printing

There are three printers available to STT users – Two Konica Minolta Bizhub 658e copiers (one in C411 and one in C413, both support duplexing and stapling, just use the print properties to set up finishing options), as well as a low-volume (not for class-size) HP Color LaserJet Pro M451dn color laser printer in C413 (this one doesn’t staple, but can duplex).

You’ll need to be a member of the STT department (and in their campus groups), you'll need to be on-campus and connected to either a wired connection, or MSUNet 3.0 (not guest) to add/use these printers.

To add these to your computer:

Windows:

  • Go to Start -> Settings (⚙️) -> Devices, and select ‘Printers and Scanners’ from the menu on the left
  • Click the + box next to ‘Add a printer or scanner’. Windows will then start searching/finding a BUNCH of printers on campus, just scroll to the bottom and select ‘The printer that I want isn’t listed’ when it appears
  • Select ‘Select a shared printer by name’ and paste the machine name from the list below, and click next.
    \\STT-S-PRINT1.CAMPUSAD.MSU.EDU\STT.C411.Copier
    \\STT-S-PRINT1.CAMPUSAD.MSU.EDU\STT.C413.Copier
    \\STT-S-PRINT1.CAMPUSAD.MSU.EDU\STT.C413.Color
  • After what seems like a little too long, it will prompt you for a username and password. Use your NetID credentials. You will need to add a CAMPUSAD\ in front of your NetID. (so mine looks like CAMPUSAD\huffordw). Be sure the ‘remember my password’ box is checked so you don’t have to constantly type your password to print.
  • After again what seems like a little too long, the drivers should be downloaded automatically from the server, and the printer installed.

Mac:

  • Download and install the print drivers.
  • Go to Settings -> Printers, and select the + symbol under the printer list to add a new printer
  • If the Advanced button doesn’t show at the top of your new window, we’ll need to add that function
    • Hold the ‘control’ key, and click on the toolbar area (between ‘Windows’ and the search field). A drop-down menu should appear, with ‘Customize Toolbar’ at the bottom
    • Drag the ‘Advanced’ icon into the toolbar (to the right of the ‘Windows’ option, and select ‘Done’,
  • Click the Advanced button, and set the following settings:
    • Type: Line Printer Daemon (LPD)
    • Device: Another Device
    • URL (Pick one that you want to install):
      • lpd://STT-S-PRINT1.CAMPUSAD.MSU.EDU/STT.C411.Copier
      • lpd://STT-S-PRINT1.CAMPUSAD.MSU.EDU/STT.C413.Copier
    • Name: (Put in whatever you want the printer to be called, I recommend the last part of the full name above, like STT.C411.Copier)
    • Location: (Put whatever you want, I recommend the room, like ‘Wells Hall C411’)
    • Print Using:
      • Select Printer Software
      • Using the search function, search for 658e. There should be one option.
    • Then hit Add, and you’ll be prompted to add options (paper souce/finishing options)
  • Installable Options (These enable printing from the large tray, as well as stapling):
    • Paper Source: PC-415+LU-302
    • Finisher: FS-537
    • Uncheck Hard Disk and Allow Public Printing
  • Select Continue, and the printer will be added
  • The first time you attempt to print to it, you’ll be prompted for a username and password. User your NetID and password (just the NetID – no need to use CAMPUSAD\ first, like on Windows) – if you save the password to your keychain, you won’t be prompted until you change it.

Let me know or stop by with your machine if you have any issues getting these installed.
