Professor-Tenure System  The Departments of Statistics and Probability (STT), Computational Mathematics, Science, and Engineering (CMSE), and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), at Michigan State University (MSU) invite applications for a tenure-system faculty position beginning Fall 2023. This position is a joint appointment among STT, CSE, and CMSE. While we expect the appointment to be at the assistant professor level, depending on the experience of the candidate, an appointment at the level of associate or full professor will be considered.

Specialist - Advisor-Continuing  The Specialist-Advisor position will advise undergraduate students in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES), and the Department of Statistics and Probability (STT). The individual selected for this position will serve as a professional advisor collaborating with the undergraduate program teams in both ESS and STT departments. 

Assistant Professor-Tenure System  Excellent candidates are sought in strong growth areas in the core of modern statistical/probabilistic theory and methods. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to carry out cutting edge research, commitments to teaching and mentorship of students, and initiative in building an equitable and diverse scholarly and instructional environment.

Specialist - Teacher-Continuing  This is an academic year (9 month) position, with likely opportunities for summer teaching if desired. The successful candidate will work with colleagues to develop, coordinate, and teach statistics and data science courses for thousands of undergraduate students, joining a vibrant, diverse, and supportive group of faculty members focused on instructional excellence in statistics and data science.

November 23, 2022 PhD candidate Ganguli receives 2022 ICSDS travel award to Italy

Arkaprabha Ganguli, STT PhD candidate, received a 2022 IMS International Conference on Statistics and Data Science student travel award to present his work “Feature selection integrated deep learning for ultrahigh dimensional and highly correlated feature space.” In recognition of this award, his name appeared in the first page of the 2022 October/November issue of the IMS Bulletin https://imstat.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Bulletin51_7.pdf .

November 23, 2022 Manski, STT doctoral student, wins first place at Conference on Applied Statistics in Agriculture and Natural Resources

Congratulations to PhD candidate Sarah Manski for winning first place for her oral presentation at the 2022 Conference on Applied Statistics in Agriculture and Natural Resources in May at Utah State University in Logan, Utah.

October 5, 2022 STT PhD grad Abhijnan Chattopadhyay accepts postdoc position with the National Institutes of Health

Abhijnan Chattopadhyay graduated from MSU with a Ph.D. in statistics this summer under the co-mentorship of Tapabrata Maiti and David Kramer. As a statistician, Abhijnan had the flexibility and skillset to work in several disciplines, which is how he found himself at the MSU-DOE Plant Research Laboratory (PRL).

September 26, 2022 2021-22 Harkness Award for Outstanding Teaching Announced

PhD candidate Andriana Manousidaki was recently presented with the 2021-2022 William L. Harkness Award for outstanding teaching by a graduate student. The award is made possible by a generous gift from William Harkness, a doctoral alumnus from the Department of Statistics and Probability. Recipients are chosen for their remarkable teaching based on student evaluations and faculty observations of teaching.
